Three policemen who were on duty at Kapayili, a surbub of Tamale in the Northern Region were attacked and two AK 47 rifles snatched away by three suspected robbers.
According to a police statement sighted by ghanagong.com, the officers including a woman, were on duty at about 12:50 hours on Sunday, February 3 when the robbers struck.
The report stated that the three armed gang who stormed the police post with a saloon car, opened fire on the policemen and subsequently snatched the two rifles from them during a struggle.
The robbers subsequently sped off on their saloon car after seizing the guns.
Police sources say even though the policemen were not seriously hurt, they had some bruises on their bodies after the struggle.
Three empty shells of spent ammunition were retrieved from the scene.
No arrest has been made so far.
