Residents of Sepe Tinpom, and Afoagya in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti region have protested against poor road network in their communities and threatened to boycott the 2020 general elections over claims that government has neglected their calls for better roads in the area.
Even though the government has declared 2020 as the year of Roads, some communities are yet to see improvement in their road infrastructure. Sepe Tinpom in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti region is one of such communities.
Residents there say numerous appeals to authorities to fix their roads have fallen on deaf ears. They have therefore threatened not to allow any political party to campaign in the area until their roads are fixed. They claim the poor nature of their roads was becoming a threat to their health and damaged their vehicles frequently. They also say some parts of the area get flooded when it rains due to poor nature of the drains over there. The residents Clad in red and black and welding placards chanted ‘No Road No Vote “at a press briefing at Sepe Tinpom.
They called on the government to urgently work on the roads to make them motorable and also construct drains to allow free flow of water to avert flooding when it rains.
