Ghana Agriculture News-Kuapa kokoo’s teleAgric consultation center is set to begin operations in a few months.
This was revealed by President of Kuapa Kokoo; Madam Fatima Ali during Kuapa’s Annual General Meeting held in the Ashanti regional capital.
The teleAgric Center is touted as the first of its kind in the world and is expected to greatly enhance Agricultural Extension Services to a large number of farmers wherever they may be in the country.
Madam Fatima Ali revealed that one of their partners; Root Capital has provided financial support for the procurement of two Hundred and fifty (250)mobile phones for the farmers. These smart phones will augment Seventy-Eight (78) smart phone tablets already distributed to farmer Executives in the variois societies across the Kuapa Districts.
These smartphones come equipped with the Plant Village App which helps with on-farm disease diagnosis as well as other Apps that will help the farmers manage their farms more effectively.
She also revealed that an agreement has been reached with Airtel/Tigo to provide data service and farmer group platform where farmers can call each other for free and have access to the teleAgric Center via a toll-free line.
Madam Ali, during her speech also touched on various accomplishments of Kuapa Kokoo within the period under review. She mentioned the Kuapa Kokoo Gender Program which is enhancing the capacity of women through the provision of various skills training including soap making and beaded footwear production.
She explained that the Kuapa Yam project which is envisioned to provide extra income for the farmers is on course with the provision of seed yam worth One Hundred thousand four hundred and fifty Ghana Cedis (GHC100,450)to Two Hundred and Seventy-nine(279)farmers across the 12 societies.
She explained several interventions put in place to ensure the health and wellbeing of farmers and staff and hinted plans to set up a maternal health education unit to sensitize mothers on relevant health topics that will improve their wellbeing.
The AGM drew over 500 participants including farmers, kuapa kokoo staff, partner organisations and state agencies.
