The Wife of the President, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has encouraged the populace to check the lives they lead so as to limit the incidences of cancers in the body.
According to her, bad eating habits, smoking and other sedentary lifestyles has been proven to be factors of having cancers develop in the body system.
Speaking at this year’s World Cancer Day which was commemorated in Kumasi, Mrs Akufo-Addo urged stakeholders to scale up sensitization and education about cancers.
She also noted the need for stakeholders to harp on the preventive aspects of the disease as well as explain the treatment therapies that are available for those who may have developed the disease in their bodies.
‘’I urge that rather than anything we educate the population about the preventive aspect of all cancers so as to help reduce the incidences of same in the country since statistics show the disease is more prevalent in the ages of 20 and 35’’, the first lady stressed.
PRINCESS OF JORDAN:
Addressing the gathering later, Nina Mired, Princess of Jordan and President of the Union of International Cancer Control (UICC) narrated how her country through a systemic approach has been able to work to treat as well as reduce cancer cases in Jordan.
She noted that some effective ways of addressing the scourge of the disease is to scale up preventive techniques as well as prioritizing the treatment regimes for same.
The UICC Head urged for the establishment of proper systems in the country for the treatment of all cancers including cervical, prostate and breast cancer.
She also called for the training of more specialists to handle cancer cases since records have shown the disease is prevalent in developing countries.
‘’I am happy with the determination of all stakeholders in the Kumasi Cancer City Project and I know the scaling up of systems in attending to cancer cases will help to effectively reduce incidences of the disease as well as treat same well’’, the Jordan Princess posited.

President of Breast Care International (BCI), host and organizer of the World Cancer Day Celebration, Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai commended government and all stakeholders for the interest they have shown in the fight against cancers.
According to her, the best way to fighting any disease or carrying out any project is to have all the active players on board and once you have same you are sure of getting good results.
She tasked stakeholders to scale up education and sensitization efforts so as to get the needed information out there to the public about cancers.

The Mayor of Kumasi, Osei Assibey Antwi pledged the commitment of the members of the Kumasi Cancer City Project to working to ensure structures put in place to educating and treating cancers in the country bring out better results.
He mentioned the devotion of several units at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to dealing with cancers and other diseases related to same.
Present at the event were the wife of the Asantehene, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, Mawerehene, Hyeaman Brentuo, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Minister of Health, Dr Nsiah Asare, Director General of Ghana Health Service, Professor Obiri Danso,KNUST Vice-Chancellor, the clergy, MMDCEs in Ashanti as well as some cancer survivors and members of the public.
