Evans Addo Kwabla; son of Patient who was allegedly given blood infested with HIV and Syphilis at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital says the investigation into the matter was not handled fairly and that the results leave much to be desired.
In a statement he released on behalf of the family, Evans Addo Kwabla insisted that there was no transparency in the handling of the blood and that the complainant was denied access to join the team that took the blood away to the military hospital.
He was also unhappy that the “Preliminary test that Kath claim proved negative was test done at same Kath lab.”
He says “we do not associate with the results brought out by the committee” and added that all insitutions involved including KATH, the CID, the Committee amongst others have left the patient to her fate whiles the hospital is refusing her treatment.
In his statement, he hints that the matter is not over. “There is an interesting untold story about this blood issue we are yet to unravel through a press conference”.
A five-member Independent Committee was set up by the Ministry of Health to investigate allegations of blood contamination from the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) after an allegation of contaminated blood being administered was brought up one of the hospital’s clients.
The Committee, chaired by Dr. David Opare Agyepong, has however debunked the accusation.
The client is however not happy with the manner in which the investigations were conducted.

A CALL FOR FAIR TREATMENT ON ALLEGED KATH CONTAMINATED BLOOD SAGA
The family of the patient at the Centre of the contaminated blood brouhaha would like to establish the following:
- There was no transparency in the handling of the blood
- complainant was denied access to join the team that took the blood away to military hospital.
- complainant was not part of the team who took the blood to Accra and was not involved in the investigation process. He was invited by police on 6th December 2018 with no agenda but honoured the invitation only to find out at the police quarters that he was to meet a committee from Accra. To this effect, meeting with committee was inconclusive.
- Preliminary test that Kath claim proved negative was test done at same Kath lab.
- We do not associate with the results brought out by the committee. (our opinion)
- KATH has delayed in providing medical report of our patient upon legally requesting for it a month ago.
- Kean refused to take care of patient and all institutions involved (KATH, committee, CID etc) have neglected our patient to her fate.
- There is an interesting untold story about this blood issue we are yet to unravel through a press conference.
Signed
Evans Addo Kwabla
(Son of Patient)
