Legendary Ghanaian gospel musician, Yaw Sarpong has hailed rapper; Sarkodie and the potential of secular musicians to help win souls for Christ and also elicit social change generally.
In an interview with NYDJ on Kumasi based YFM Monday morning, the highly respected gospel musician was full of nice things to say about rapper Sarkodie.
He recalled how Sarkodie invited and honored him at his wedding. He said he was emotional to hear that Sarkodie listened to his songs during his private moments and went on to request an impromptu performance of one of his songs during his wedding.
He recounted how he proposed a collaboration with Sarkodie. “He graciously accepted and did his part from his home studio. Later my sound engineer insisted he comes to the studio to fine-tune some aspects. Considering the difficulty associated with reaching Sarkodie, I was uncomfortable but again he graciously accepted to come over. My team and I decided to get there early but surprisingly, he was already there when we arrived at the studio ” he recounted with a lot of admiration.
During the emotional interview, NYDJ played the new song on the show and read out many equally emotional and nostalgic comments from listeners.
