You are facing existential threat; allow independent investigation into leakages-Ablakwa tells WAEC

Former Deputy Minister for Education and MP for North Tongu in the Volta region has advised the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to allow a thorough forensic audit into their entire processes with the aim of stopping regular leakages of examination questions.

Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa who was speaking on Good Morning Ghana on metro TV was unhappy that WAEC seem to assert her position as an independent body to their own detriment. He suggested that over six decades of WAEC fending off independent audits or investigation of her processes have not helped her credibility. He believes a report from such an audit, acted upon by member countries will help prevent further leakages.

“For all you know, WAEC is not to be blamed. Maybe, these leakages are from some of their other actors but how will that be ascertained in the absence of an investigation?” he queried and added that WAEC faces an “existential threat” now that people are calling for their monopoly to be broken. “Nigeria is experimenting with other examination bodies as are others. For their own credibility, they should submit to independent credible audit”.

Nana Akomea, who was also a co-panelist on the programme however suggested that if WAEC is independent, then they cannot be absolved of blame. “They are entirely to blame” he stressed.
