Police have arrested two persons suspected to be issuing fake number plates to vehicle owners in the Ashanti Regional capital.

The suspects have been identified as 47-year-old Osei Kwadwo who is a car dealer and Halidu Issah, a 23-year-old cobbler.

They are allegedly involved in a syndicate that facilitates the procurement and issuance of fake number plates to vehicle owners in the Kumasi metropolis.

Arrest

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, a deputy public relations officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo said the suspects were arrested at separate locations in the Kumasi Metropolis on Monday, January 14, 2019.

He said a team of police officers were dispatched to suspect Osei Boateng’s garage at Bekwai roundabout in Kumasi upon a tip off where he was arrested.

A search at the premises revealed twenty-four (24) DV plates together with twenty-four logbooks.

He, however mentioned suspect Halidu Issah as his accomplice and his source of supply.

Halidu was subsequently arrested at his hideout by the police.

Mr Ahianyo said both suspects have been detained in police custody assisting in investigations.

He further added that efforts are underway to arrest other accomplices to face the full rigours of the law.

Caution

Mr Ahianyo also cautioned the general public to volunteer information on the activities of such miscreants.
